State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) is a free health-benefit counseling service for Medicare/Medicaid beneficiaries. This office is run by a part-time SHIP Coordinator and a team of dedicated volunteers. SHIP counselors are trained in Medicare and Medicaid and health insurance counseling. SHIP counselors are not connected with any insurance company, nor are they licensed to sell insurance. Their purpose is to serve you objectively and confidentially.
SHIP counselors can help with a variety of things, including:
Identify resources for prescription drug assistance
Explain Medicare Health Plan Options
Understand doctor bills, hospital bills, and Medicare Summary Notices
Understand Medicare/Medicaid eligibility, enrollment, coverage, claims, and appeals
Enroll in Medicare Savings or Low-Income Subsidy Programs
Identify and report Medicare/Medicaid fraud and abuse
SHIP counselors will not advise you on what choices to make or what plans to purchase. They will, however, help you find options so you can make informed decisions for your health benefit needs. To help us serve you better, we ask that you call ahead and schedule an appointment.
Eligibility: Branch County Medicare beneficiaries
Funding: This service is funded by federal grant funds.
