The COA will have a millage renewal question on the primary ballot on Tuesday August 6, 2024 for Branch County residents.​

MILLAGE RENEWAL PROPOSAL
OFFICIAL BALLOT LANGUAGE

For the sole purpose of renewing and continuing an operating millage for the funding of Branch County Commission on Aging, including the H. & C. Burnside Senior Center, shall the previously approved millage above the tax limitation on general ad valorem taxes within the County of Branch imposed under Article IX, Sec. 6 of the Michigan Constitution be continued and renewed at up to 0.4857 mill ($0.4857 per $1,000 of Taxable Value) for a period of five (5) years, 2025 through 2029, inclusive?

If approved and levied in full, this millage will raise an estimated $868,017.98 for the Commission on Aging in the first calendar year of the levy based on taxable value.

WHAT IS THIS MILLAGE FOR?

​The requested amount is .4857 mils to be approved for the next five years (2025-2029). This millage accounts for approximately 62% of the operating budget for the Commission on Aging and the Burnside Center.

Is This an Increase?​

​No. This request is strictly for a renewal of the .4857 mils currently approved by the voters.
​

How is the money Used?

This money is used to operate all the programs, services, and activities that are offered by the Commission on Aging and the Burnside Center. Some examples of these programs include: In-Home Services, Medical Van Transportation, Chore Service, Michigan Medicare Assistance Program, Congregate Lunch, Home Delivered Meals, Medical Loan Closet, Kinship Care Support Program, Exercise Room, Woodshop, Craft Room, Library, Billiards, Cards/ Games, and Computer Lab.
